I was planning to send this to Steve Rodie and Bob Finkenbiner, but then decided to share the link here.
This link is to a video titled "Colorado Peaches - The Very Best from Our Orchards to Your Table!". It is
27:54 long and covers the process of growing peaches and sending them to market. The first 15 minutes or so will probably only appeal to people who are interested in agriculture. At around 15:45 into the video though they start to talk about the process
of preparing the peaches and shipping them via rail. The first part of this section of the video discusses the process of making the ice used in the reefers, the storage of the ice, and the icing of the reefers. At around 17:55 into the video there is a
shot of empty reefers in Grand Junction, Colorado waiting for loading. They state that around 3,000 reefers are required for the 3-week harvest season. We then see a number of D&RGW freights, many with solid blocks of ART reefers lead by 4-unit A-B-B-A sets
of F's. At 22:49 the video shows a train that includes many cars that are not the "standard" ART reefers used in this service. If anyone could offer some input into what types of other reefers are present in this train I would appreciate it. It seems likely
that these cars are not reefers but that this train is actually a mixed freight with reefers on the head end.
Anyway...for those who are modeling the 40's and 50's this should be an interesting video. The rest of you may find it to be interesting too.
