These days, a lot maybe most, wheel sets are moved on highway flatbed trailers, like a lot of roadway machines. Flat cars, other special propose types, are rare sights on today's railroads. A couple of years ago, a major power plant contractor, completed a big job, here in Southern Illinois, and couldn't get flats to move his cranes! But this was almost 5 years ago when they had switch jobs just about everywhere.
