I second Hol's Thank You. I knew I could count on the group to figure this one out! Tom Mack Cincinnati, OH ---In CBQ@yahoogroups.com, <holpennywagner@...> wrote : Bob: After studying the two photos and looking through the coal chute diagram pages, you're most certainly right; the April 1962 photo on eBay is at Mendota, just as is the April 1959 photo. Which means that between 1959 and 1962 the Q removed the actual loading chutes that extended out over three tracks. A logical move, as the chute no longer served to fuel locomotives and was no longer maintained, so there was the possibility of one of the chutes dropping down and being hit by a passing train. Better to simply remove that portion of the apparatus, then take down the remainder of it at a later date. Thanks for verifying the location. I know because I rode the trip and part of the "April Fools" agenda was a freezing blizzard! Trip went via Denrock to Savanna and return via
the C&I with just the 5632, as I recall. The 1959 with the oil-burner stopped at the Mendota coal chute I believe was a round tripper to Galesburg on Sunday, April 5th. Bob Campbell __._,_.___ Posted by: thommack@yahoo.com __,_._,___ |
