Believe this was the crew dorm:

And here's the depot, still with a faded Amtrak sign on it:

Greetings:

Maybe I will get this right this time, and therefore I am recalling all my previous emails relative to the subject.

Colorado Division Notice 65, dated March 3, 1985, reads in part:

"At Akron:

EFFECTIVE 12:01 a.m. Tuesday March 1, 1983, CREW LODGING AT AKRON, COLORADO WILL BE HANDLED BY 4B's MOTEL located on highway 34 east end of Akron."  ( I don't know why some of the words were capitalized and others not.)

The run-through agreement for the Engineers was signed on April 3, 1985, and run-through was implemented on May 1, 1985.

I hope I got this right this time, and hopefully I have answered all questions.

Myron

Marty:

Do you or any of your fellow engineers know when Akron was discontinued as an engine crew change point?  Amtrak dropped Akron as a stop in April 1987, and I'm thinking that was also about the time engine crews began running through between Denver and McCook.  The crew dormitory building at Akron, as I recall, was out of use by early in the BN era, possibly earlier, in favor of a local motel.

Thanks,

Hol

Does anyone know when Akron stopped being a crew change point and when the dormitory stopped being used?  Also wanting to know when Amtrak stopped picking up passengers in Akron.

Thanks,

Brian
