Thread-topic: [CBQ] Red cab roofs

Jonathan:

Color slides of C&S narrow gauge power show that those locomotives did not receive red cab roofs, but remember that they also did not receive the newer paint scheme, as the Q wanted no association with the narrow gauge lines in Colorado.  Also, the narrow gauge engines all had wooden cabs, and those cab roofs were canvas-covered and coated with roofing tar to seal them, so no paint was applied over the roofing tar.

As for Q 537 on the C&S, no color photos of it have surfaced, so who can say with any certainty how its cab roof was painted?

Thanks, Hol. Would they have used this paint on all engines being shopped after 1925/28? On C&S 58, for instance, when it was shopped in 1930(?) and got its dome covers swapped with CB@Q "35." Or to CB&Q 537 when it was leased to the C&S?

Jonathan
