I am working on an article on the 1947 Zephyr derailment at Downers Grove. My
understanding and hope is that it will be added to a compilation of articles,by
others, currently listed under Disasters in the Suburbs for a future BRHS
Bulletin or part of one.
I have the ICC report of the accident describing in great detail what happened
and why. Bill Barber has graciously contributed photos taken by his late father
that are better than the ones I've seen in old newspapers and the Downers Grove
city history book.
Bill, please go ahead and follow thru with copies to Dave Lotz. Thanks again
for these awesome views.
Now I need help from others to really improve the piece as follows:
-AAR OPEN TOP LOADING RULE DIAGRAMS FROM THE 40-60's for blocking
tractors,equipment on wood floored flat cars.
- picture(s) of International Harvester tractors or preferred would be I.H.
construction equipment loaded on flats
-picture(s) and/ or maps of the I.H. Plant in the lumber district near Western
Ave in Chicago.
If you have any this and would like to share please contact me off list. If
anyone knows of web sites that might help with above please let me know.
