Never mind the picture of an IH crawler on a flat. I just opened an email from Hol ! OMG !

Thank you Hol !!!

Enough said, I can't wait to write and for Dave to publish the article ! Pardon my enthusiasm on such a morbid subject.

It is just absolutely amazing what pops up when you ask !

Thanks Charlie,

I have most everything I need. Except a photo of an IH crawler loaded on a flat car. The article will be entitled "for lack of a nail" with subtitle Downers Grove 1947. Pete provided me the whole ditty but it's too long. Thanks Pete.

Also Charlie while we're on the subject of sharing...... I've got the schedule for the "shop train" from the Aurora shops to Eola. Would you consider sending Dave the photo of the train for a future article ? I'll include the photo from Hol showing the bus that succeeded the train at Eola rdhse( I have no doubt he'll be glad to share) and if I ever see the photo showing all the Eola rdhse staff on the turntable again I'll grab it.

If anyone has the photo showing all the Eola rdhse staff gathered around the turntable will you please consider sharing it for a future article ?

Thanks all,

Leo

Some of us have to get over the idea that the way to preserve information is to lock it up in a hermetically sealed jar where nobody can get at it.

Yes, there are costs associated with individuals and organizations acquiring drawings, photographs and documents.   But the information contained therein should be freely shared in the Burlington Route and greater railroad historical community….otherwise it is worthless.

Dissemination of information is the best way of preserving it.   Not only does the information get “out there”, it serves as a catalyst for generating more interest in the history of the railroad and ferrets out new or complementary material.

The interest in Burlington Research as evidenced by the volume and diversity of the material that has been shared through the two groups dedicated to the Burlington Route and on other forums is astounding and should be celebrated, not berated (by Some Who will remain nameless)!

Leo-  As I recall it was a Bulldozer that was the culprit in the Downers Grove wreck not a farm tractor…..if you haven’t gotten a ARA / AAR loading page I think I have a book somewhere that I can scan the appropriate page for you.
