I had forgotten about "Vice"...seems to imply or mean.."succeeding" or "after"...someone else...I've never seen it used anywhere with this connotation other than "railroadwise". Pete

I always liked the word "vice" as in "D.R. Zilch protects the third trick operator assignment at Petticoat Junction VICE J.K. Doaks, retired pursuant to pension rules". It was always "pursuant to pension rules", as if there was another way to retire!
