My father and grandfather own the local wholesale plumbing company here in Burlington Iowa. and they would flat bed trailers with 40000 lb of steel pipe from United States Steel in Lorain Ohio. The building had an over head crane and the pipe had to be load a certain way so when back into the dock they could pick up in the center of the 21' length. the trailer weight was distributed correctly to allow the trailer to come over the highway. So the CBQ railroad would bring the trailer to Burlington on a flat car and would unramp the trailer here at Burlington and delivery to our dock. i know the flat bed trailer was load at united steel off center and ship from there to chicago. i don't know if the trailer was off load  from the railcar in chicago or ship on through. this started after the flood on 1965 and last until 1976

Thank you Lyle!  I need to digest the material, however the terminal photo answered a question.  I was curious about a rail siding to the building as it is several blocks off the mainline.  The photo clearly shows the siding..  While the building is still in use, the siding is long gone.

I think I got this when someone posted this on this list some time ago, perhaps it will be useful. It's about the Galesburg, IL terminal after having just opened in I believe 1937.
