I agree, Charlie.  Im a native Ohioan who never lived on or near the Q and only rode it once, on the commuter run between Chicago and Downers Grove in 1961.  But I "adopted" the Burlington in 1965, to model in conjunction with my fictional Wyoming Central RR.  I've been a Q fan ever since and have purchased a ton of CB&Q stuff in HO over the years (decades).  The Q has a rich history and interesting equipment.  I would think that, properly publicized, it should attract plenty of "outsiders".

Nelson-

I don’t believe that Railfans and Model Railroaders have to limit their interest to what they have seen at a particular point in their lifetimes.

If that was the case there would not be the thousands of people involved in historic reenactment of Revolutionary War and Civil War battles, etc…

We do face a serious loss of membership as an important component of RR Historical Societies is ex-employees…. and the march of time is depleting their ranks and they cannot be replaced in kind.

However, I think there are enough people that could become interested in our railroad’s history if they were made aware of it.   Interest in the BNSF could lead to exploration of what railroad originally built the line….and the Burlington certainly can be an interesting railroad once you get hooked!!!
