Wasn't there a Quaker plant at Rockford? Was it the dog food? I don't remember
much about the job except some close clearances... And either IC or CNW depot
was higher.

Randy,
Much of this has been discussed on this list in the past. If you go thru the
archives I believe you'll find a wealth of info.
Here's an overview answer to your questions.
Prior to around 1967 or so the Q had no operations based at Rochelle. Town was
served by the Rockford Wayfreight. As industries located and grew in Rochelle
the Wayfreight worked many, many hours of overtime each night until it became
clear a change was needed.
This was shortly after the road switcher agreement went into place. So the
Rockford started turning at Flag Center and return to Rockford. Two road
switchers were based at the Rochelle depot. One was on duty at 6AM and one at
6PM. They shared one GP7.
When del Monte 199 was built the railroads switched it on a rotating annual
basis. So when it was the Q's year there would be a second jeep across from
depot on the Kennedy trk. This is also where the one Milw jobs jeep was kept.
Try and find a copy of the BN spins/compass pamphlet for Rochelle and it will
answer your industry questions as of 1973/4. It's a great source.
Major industries in the time frame your modeling were Swift, carnation,Rochelle
utilities, del Monte 199,115,110,etc.,standard Oil. There were also many, many
smaller customers.
All activity at Rochelle was performed by Q road crews. Modeling Rochelle is
easy, just be sure to fill most of the trks with 40 and 50 ft insulated box cars
and then spend hours switching everything out with limited time on the mains to
get it done. Believe me that's how it was until into the 80s when for example
the Carnation lead was put in.
Rockford was served by yard men. In the time frame you're looking at they used
the jeep during the day around town and then it went on the Rockford w/f that
night. Major customers were the power plant,Joe Behr(sp) scrap, the dog food
plant(the name escapes me right now). Rockford had been an industrial center
for metal industries.
Others on the list may be able to furnish more info on Rockford.
The Milw had trackage rights from Rockford to Steward Jct.
If you're going to be at the 4000 foundation swap in La Crosse tomorrow look me
up at my table.
