384 is definitely in the badlands between Casper and Bonneville, and since
Lysite had a 2-story depot, the boxcar structure shown is probably Bucknum or
Arminto.

Hol, Study 384 as it appears to have a depot and several side tracks,
maybe the order of the two images offers a clue. In #398 there is a MP 335 on
the bridge and you can see the rock sign on the hill in the background. If
this is Thermopolis then Bonneville is about 32 miles away. Archie

It's just a standard AAR bottom-operated coupler, nothing special about it as

Hol - What kind of coupler is that on the
Aleutian, or is it some kind of covering for cosmetic purposes? Louis

Yeah, there are four photos of the Aleutian in the Barriger collection -- all
taken in Wyoming. And I was very pleased to find them -- see flipped and
cleaned up copies attached. The car was purchased by the Q in 1940 from the
Copper River & Northwestern Railroad of Alaska, where it had been numbered
100 and was the private car of copper magnate Stephen Birch. Why the Q named
it Aleutian is baffling, since it never came within 700 miles of the Aleuts
and the Aleutian Islands while it was in Alaska. These are the only shots I
have seen of this car on the Q before it was rebuilt and modernized at the
Aurora shops in 1952, so they were quite a find for me. The Q sold the car
to the Missouri Portland Cement Co. in 1966, and when they were through with
it it was donated to the National Museum of Transport in St. Louis.

By the way, if #387 is in Thermop, then so is 386, which shows the
side business car Aleutian.
Looks like it is at the St. Louis Transportation Museum. I don't know
anything about this car, but there is a blurb about it here:

I'm sure one of you knows all about it.
