Louis, It would not have been through the Big Horn Basin as the portion through the Wind River Canyon was the last completed and that was around 1922. Trains went to Thermopolis and Stage Coached over the Owl Creek Mountains to Bonneville and on to Casperand reverse for the Casper traffic. Kuby would be a mispell for Kirby. North of Thermopolis. The image was identified as the first train though Big Horn Basin to Kuby, WY, 1890. The date is incorrect as the 640 was built for the B&MR by Rogers in December 1892. Plus, it wasn't renumbered to CB&Q 640 until 1904. Thus, the image had to been taken after 1904. Also, some of the clothing styles in this image look to be more like the 1910 to 1920 era. Could this image have recorded a later reenactment of the first train through the Big Horn Basin? Also, where was/is Kuby, WY? Louis Zadnichek II Fairhope, AL |
