Louis,

The CB&Q didn't reach Kirby (between Worland and Thermopolis) until 1907, and Thermopolis in 1909.  They didn't get thru the Wind River Canyon until 1913, finally connecting with the C&S in 1914.  Then the Panama Canal opened, robbing most of the Gulf traffic the FW&D/CS/CB&Q route was to have fed to the pacific Northwest. :-(  ~~~  Curses!  Foiled again!

While on the subject of Lines West photographs taken by John Barriger, I found the attached image elsewhere on the Web showing CB&Q Class K-2 No. 640 (former B&MR No. 312). The image was identified as the first train though Big Horn Basin to Kuby, WY, 1890.

The date is incorrect as the 640 was built for the B&MR by Rogers in December 1892. Plus, it wasn't renumbered to CB&Q 640 until 1904. Thus, the image had to been taken after 1904. Also, some of the clothing styles in this image look to be more like the 1910 to 1920 era. Could this image have recorded a later reenactment of the first train through the Big Horn Basin? Also, where was/is Kuby, WY?
