Right Michael  Re read my writeup in the Elevation Issue of the Burlington.  The viaduct was built to the right of the former ROW allowing thru service while being built(Much work was also being done on elevation work East of La Vergne.) The idea was once the original three tracks were put in an additional two tracks would be built to the left of the present viaduct to allow the increase traffic of the time.  Then the depression hit.  With traffic down and the increased safety of signaling added the two additional tracks were not needed.  Even the CA&E filled and built a new depot(Right across from the old Central Fire House)along the river and a couple blocks away from the still in existence Terminal Building.  Years ago on a trip to Houston Mike Spoor showed me a copy he had of the plans to build elevated ROW from Berwyn to Naperville and it was great.  All the towns were afraid it would split the towns with a GREAT WALL and with the depression and follow up war it was quietly swept under the rug.  Today CREATE is working on getting rid of the crossings.  Some projects like the new bridge at Congress Park after the derailment were real headaches.

The pics even showed an Amtrak Train powered by SDP40F's using these tracks. They were abandoned and the RoW was paved over for parking lot usage later on in the 1970's. This RoW can and should be used again for commuter service west of Aurora, IL.

I've lived in Aurora all my life (60 years) and can assure you that no such CB&Q tracks ever existed after the viaduct was built. The whole point of the viaduct was to get the tracks out of the Aurora (east) downtown business district. The only street-level tracks in the business district were street car tracks or the CA&E.
Not to mention that what you're proposing would involve at least 6 (!) grade crossings across VERY busy streets and the purchase of the R-O-W land.
All this just to add trains from Aurora to the proposed western terminals? It's a lead pipe cinch that there are very few folks in Aurora interested in riding to Yorkville or Plano. They're simply not destinations. Nothing there to see or do. Yorkville/Plano to/from Chicago? You bet! But you don't need to stop at Aurora!
