In the early 70's we brought a switch engine from Rock Falls to Earlville with a bad journal on R3. We "baby-sat" the thing all the way over the road and it ran hot the whole trip. At Earlville it was decided to leave the engine there and allow us to make Eola within our hours. The RFE, Paul Ritli, loaded a 55 gal. drum on the running board of the BO engine and planned to hook a hose to the water barrel and attach the other end to the affected journal. We left while these arrangements were being made but the engine made it back to Aurora without further incident as we never saw it set out between Earlville and Eola. Karl __._,_.___
