Louis-

Many of us want to see these recollections here (they will be collected and preserved in some manner beyond a transitory yahoogroups file!!!) and can relate to them in some way.

I worked for the Bell System and was laid off in 1992 (“rightsized”) 18 months short of qualifying for an early pension.   They did me a favor as what management (and the federal government) was doing to the corporate culture was, and is, a crime.   We had “characters” working with us and it wasn’t the sterile politically correct tight-ass atmosphere that you see today…..and I think, in spite of (or maybe because of) the lack of computers and other modern systems we got more work done and it was a hell of a lot more satisfying!

I wouldn’t work for a large company today for ten times the salary.   The days of a company having a sense of community and dedicated employees are gone and I am glad I was able to experience such an environment while it lasted.
