John -

Thank you for providing your comments about color matching. My apologies to
the group if I am dragging too much precision to what is an imprecise topic,
but nevertheless, I have a couple of questions.

I see that you list separate grays for the red and the black schemes. Can you
(or anybody) generally describe the differences between the two such as shading
and hue differences?

Since I plan to paint switchers in the future, (assuming through the 1950s road
hood units and switchers had the same gray) did the gray change on switchers in
1959 with the adoption of the road hood unit red scheme? If the gray on
switchers did not change around 1959, did it change in the late 1960s when the
Q dropped the striping and went with white end stripes?

I realize the changing of colors only applies to when units are repainted and
through my research, I think up to 15-20% of the built-before-1960 switchers
still had "Everywhere West" and "Way of the Zephyr" lettering at the time of
the BN merger. Which brings up another question, when the Q dropped the
"Everywhere West" and "Way of the Zephyr" slogans on switchers, there seems to
be a lot of early 1960s photos with switchers with the "Burlington" lettering
on the hood - did the Q do some re-lettering of switchers versus full repaints?

Thanks in advance and the group's patience.

Tim Wells
