This is why both GE and EMD have been working with GPS for tracking purposes. Semi-truck manufacturers and engine manufacturers have come up with a similar system. This way the engine management system can automatically "call mother" when something goes wrong. The railroads saw this years ago, and they wanted this on their new locomotives, and that is why GE and EMD have the opaque domes on the cab roofs. Only they have more than just GPS under that dome also.

An authorized person can either "dump" the data directly into a laptop or remove and replace the card holding the data. BNSF has a large force in Ft. Worth that has ONE function, remotely monitor ALL locomotive operations, REAL TIME !! You can "run" but ya CAN'T HIDE !!! DO IT RIGHT !!!!!! Karl __._,_.___
