Gee Bob, I thought you'd have more commentary on the GREAT M-K rebuilds. Aside from the fact that they NEVER performed like the E's of old, half the cab insulation had been omitted AND the brake valve sucked - they were FINE engines. Most were so bad that I would have traded the original 9976 for almost ANY of the M-K stuff !!! GONE was the 9988B and her incredible performance !! My first stop, westbound, at Halstead street, was in EMERGENCY !!! "Fat Boy" told me ta "be #$%%# CAREFUL" settin' the air and, well I guess I wasn't careful enough 'cause we made one a those "BRICK WALL" stops, sortta like Fuska made every day, every stop ! Cast iron shoes and 110+ pounds of air in the cylinders produces a stop that would probably register on the Richter magnitude
scale. Seems the "cam followers" were considerably out of adjustment and made the use of the brake valve almost impossible without goin' into Emerg. CAM FOLLOWERS ?? hot rod or brake valve - which one we talkin' about here ?? DId I like the M-K rebuilds ?? I'd say - "probably" NOT !!! Karl __._,_.___
