Bill, we just might have to save that tatoo for another time... A couple of observations if you're looking for a little train action at Savanna: CP's train 273 usually has a 9AM call at Bensenville and gets into Savanna in the 3-5PM time frame. Both times I've been there recently he spent some time switching before he heads across the river. He often has DME and/or ICE units. Both times the BNSF traffic was very light earlier in the day but seemed to pick up later in the afternoon. I don't know if this was just chance or if that's the general pattern. Maybe someone else here who knows that area better than I can chime in on that (Steve?). While I was there, a CP switch job occupied the diamond for quite some time working the old Milwaukee yard while a BNSF train waited. Not that the BNSF was any big priority move - he switched across the plant before he left as well, but just wondering - is that a controlled or an automatic interlocking, and if controlled, who controls it? I found a picture of the old tower here, which gives a date of 1960. Anyone know about when control of the crossing was shifted elsewhere? Did you or your wife get a tattoo while there? We are heading to Clinton, IA this weekend to visit our daughter and her family. We may make a side trip to Poopy's and Savanna while there. > > Bill Barber > Gravois Mills, MO > __._,_.___
