On the subject of "waycar oddities", what about the waycar on page 72 (top right) of the "Burlington Waycars" book? Behind the wrecked locos is a clerestory-roofed car with a cupola, similar to a CW type waycar, but with 6 windows equally spaced along the side.  It appears to bear a six digit road number beginning with "2", the MoW numbering series from 1904 onwards.

The loco in the middle of the photo appears to be 1722 which, after 1904, was an 0-6-0 class G-8, which ties in with the MoW numbering series.
