It is all about dollars. Truck provide better service at cheaper rates. Today's railroads are not interested in small shippers or receivers. Can you tell us if the reason from switching from Rail to Truck was because the volume of concrete being sold went down, for example, a large construction project in the area finished up, or if trucks offered a lower rate charge? The crushed stone came by truck. After about 1985, everything came by truck. There was (and still is) a small concrete plant on the west side of the tracks, on the south side of Sesser. From what I can make out on the track plans there is a siding that goes to it. Did the railroad drop off or pick up anything there, i.e. sand,gravel or cement? If so what type of cars were used? Was there a place on the track for items to be dumped, a bin or auger?
