Arrived on West Coast this a.m. First comment: Hype regarding packaging is not overstated. Second comment: All I ever wanted was a substitute for Holbrook and Lorenz's modest little paperback (1978 OP). Third comment: Do not drop this book on your foot. Fourth comment: I do hope someone will write the major review for the trade press this book deserves. It's a landmark. I haven't started the text yet, but photos are superbly chosen, edited, and reproduced, and cover every aspect - human and technical - of waycars, waycar use and waycar life; also, the book has some just plain great railroading and landscape shots, which are not only interesting and worthy in their own right but do a great deal to make waycars come alive. And of course, comprehensive info, plans, diagrams, including on some pretty obscure classes (those great 4-wheelers that survived into the 1930s); fine contributions from various list members. Well done! Fifth comment: Don't do the MOW book. Nobody is going to live that long. Sixth comment: Please don't drop this book on your foot. --- In CBQ@yahoogroups.com, "John D.
