Ken,

I too spent a lot of time in that ravine, swinging from the vines hanging from the trees.  It was a great setting for ghost stories at the stone cabin on scout campouts.  Telling the legends of Indian raids on the trains traveling the K-line and braves pushing empty boxcars into the bottomless Boxcar Lake. Ah, what fun!!

When looking at Google Maps, they even label the "Sewer Trail!"

Dave

Duncan,

Cascade is a ravine on the south end of Burlington. The stream running through the ravine has about a 30 foot waterfall giving it the name Cascade. Where the stream flows into the Mississippi was once a steamboat landing, now it has a boat club. The railroad ran along the bluffs along the river. In the 1930s the Burlington installed a wye with the tail going up the ravine. The wye was used to turn the Mark Twain Zephyr. There is a picture of the MTZ on the wye on P. 68 of Bulletin No. 23 on Burlington, Iowa.

I grew up near the ravine and spent a lot of time in the ravine.

Okay, have to ask: where is Cascade?  Not a name I can remember hearing before.
