Got the pictures to open. They were very interesting. The elevator is about half way beween the concrete plant and the depot. It has been closed for many years now. It was last ran by one the brothers of H.D. Montgomery, the Q agent at Metropolis. It was a small operation.

Thanks Mr Mitchell. Did you you get the pictures to open?
For whatever reason, I cannot for the life of me visualize the grain elevator in Sesser. But then I kind of, sort of remember seeing it from the old high school. Or was that part of the concrete plant? I do remember a GN boxcar with the big goat on it sitting there on the siding for what I thought was forever, if I looked down the street from the high school towards the tracks.
I lived out in the country and when we "went to town" it meant Sesser.
Grain on our farm was trucked out to Waltonville elevator, and I would love to build that little piece of the railroad too.

The tracks there were used as storage as late as the 1970's. The Keller Mine (Old Ben #16) was closed after a fire that occurred during the 1922 strike, but reopened for a short time after-wards. The stockpen at Sesser was located just north of the depot and the grain elevator was and is located about 150 yards south of the depot on the west side of the yard.

I see the old mine that was north of the depot on the east side of the tracks, with 2 tracks full of coal hoppers (I thought it was burned down during the early labor troubles, I remember the smokestack was still sort of standing when I was a kid)Looks like a coal tipple there too.
