The shots were taken from Daytons' Bluff, which would naturally give anyone a roof shot of anything that is rolling by. I do not take roof shots constantly, but when I do, I am looking at it from a modeling standpoint for "roof details", the weathering is secondary. I am looking for horn locations, radio antenna locations and types, air conditioner, GPS dome location, type and size, round, square, low profile, higher profile, etc.

Well, then, maybe this site will be of interest, Jonathan:

Hope this helps.

little effort is expended accurately representing that part of a freight
car which is most visible in a model (because we typically view it from
above, so much of the time). And that's because we normally don't see
or photograph real freight cars from that perspective. Even Mike Spoor's
excellent color guide to freight and passenger cars have very few good
images of car roofs. Your views of the SM16/18 stock car roofs,
especially, are superb. Thanks!
