In addition to the 9400 series NW2s converted from TR2s the last dozen SW1200s (9281-9292) and SW1000s 9310-9321 were equipped with MU.  And, of course, the FW&D switchers assigned to Wichita Falls were retrofitted with MU in the mid-1960s for service on the Wichita Valley lines.

Leo,

Unless that is one of the 9400 series cow and calf units, it is probably running as a box car, too. I don't believe any other Q switchers had MU capability.
Although, possibly, some or all of the SW1000's could be MU'ed.

Tom,

Another prototypical placement of switchers to model would be one
"boxcar'd" back 5 cars from the units. This would be a switcher moving for
inspection or maintenance that's beyond it's inspection cards time limits or dead.

On the Aurora Div. with all the outlying smaller yards, switcher shuffling
moves were a weekly event, especially on the Fox River branch with switchers
at Ottawa,Streator and La Salle. There was also a neat shuffling move of
"lite" units regulary made on the branch on Sundays starting at Eola making
a round trip by way of Ottawa,Streator,La Salle,Zearing,Mendota and back to
Eola.

I never made the trip as it would be just an engineer and fireman but did
prepare units for the trip at Eola Rdhse(see an upcoming Zephyr, I think).

Karl or Bob did you ever make one of these Sunday excursions ?

Leo Phillipp
