Bill, I was able to chase both 1965 and 1966
Circus Trains from Baraboo to Milwaukee. As near as I can remember (and
what my slides tell me) as follows:
7-2-1965 to Baraboo via Madison on CNW
7-3-1965 Baraboo to Milwaukee with Circus
Train
6-25-1966 To Madison-layover
6-26,1966 To Baraboo
6-27-1966 To Milwaukee with Circus
Train
I believe the 4960 returned to Chicago directly
from Milwaukee but on what date I do not recall. I think the
engine left for Chicago that same evening both on July 3,65 and June
27,66. I know for sure, that the Circus Train returned to Baraboo via
CNW with CNW power.
Both dates for the run to Milwaukee (July 3,1965
and June 27,1966) are correct.

While not technically fan trips, maybe publicity trips, they were special
movements of 4960 and probably ought to be included since there really is no
other place to record such information. Do you know the specific dates that
the trips operated in those two years? I think they operated between Baraboo
and Milwaukee over C&NW trackage. Did 4960 pull the train both ways on
each trip? Any details would be appreciated as I wasn't able to see either
trip.
