There are also control points on the TRE between Ft. Worth and Dallas with those names

John (& all),
Thanks for answering Bob’s question, however, please remember that not everybody who joins this list may be as knowledgeable on the CB&Q as we would assume. Many have joined to learn about the great railroad that endears us all, so let’s continue to answer questions with what we think should be obvious knowledge. A simple question like this could lead to a very interesting conversation thread on the origin of siding names!
Thanks!!
Dave Lotz

I can't beleive a Q fan would ask about Budd and Murphy! But
since you asked they were two of the most important presidents of the railroad.
Tradtionally outlaying sidings are named for families in the area, local
industries, local geographic features or railroad officals.

I have often
wondered how sidings got their name on the CB&Q. I live close to Savanna
and there is Burke Siding east of town and Ebner Siding south of Thomson. Up
around East Dubuque there is Murphy and Budd. Does anyone know the history of
the naming of these sites?
