The "new" passenger station at Beardstown was not a flag stone structure. It
was made of yellow bricks and had a curved glass block front wall. It was
however of the same art deco style of the other depots. I haven't been up there
in a few years, but the last time I was there it was in good repair and used by
the M of W forces. The old depot was built of red bricks.

Hi Jerry:
Thanks for the heads-up on the LaCrosse article in Classic Tains. I picked up
a copy and enjoyed it and the article on Copley Park & CB&Q #4000.
The articles stated that the Q also had the flag stone depots in Burlington,
Ottumwa, West Quincy, Rockford, & Beardstown.
I have visited the Burlington & Ottumwas depots and they are appealing &
attractive structures, both with CB&Q Hudosn locomotives. My understanding is
that the Ottumwas depot was originally a big Victorian structure that was
remodeled in the flag stone architecture. Am I remembering correctly?
I grew up 30 miles east of Quincy. I remember in 1973 on a shopping trip to
Quincy (& after the flood waters had subsided), my parrents drove across the
bridge into West Quincy to see the flood damage, including the depot.
I have never seen the Rockford depot and do not recall seing any photos of it.
I probably saw the Beardstown depot while growing up since Beardstown was about
10 miles from us and we passed through a few times a year. However, I have no
direct memories of it. The "CB&Q In Color Vol 4" book has a photo of it in
which it appears to me to be a red brick structure. Di Beardstown actually
have flag stone depot as stated in the Classic Trains article ?
