Steve, thanks for the info. I believe that trains on the K-line in the sixties had to get clearance at Keokuk. That would explain it. I'll have to check the photos/timetables to pin down when the change happened. If there was no longer an operator it would have been taken down as depots got consolidated. A change in operating practices. Pictures of the Keokuk Union Depot show that at one time there was a semaphore there but more recent photos (ie sixties) show it to be gone. Can anyone comment on why such a signal might be removed and what the changes in practice would be that would allow/require this?
