Some notes in the timetable call for every train to get clearance at some 
depots.
If there was no longer an operator it would have been taken down as depots got 
consolidated.
A change in operating practices.  IE;  CTC or ABS added

I saw Dave's commercial post about the Q connection semaphores and the recent 
discussion about the one in Montgomery.  Pictures of the Keokuk Union Depot 
show 
that at one time there was a semaphore there but more recent photos (ie 
sixties) 
show it to be gone.  Can anyone comment on why such a signal might be removed 
and what the changes in practice would be that would allow/require this?
