The answer is "Yes". C&S equipment could be found all over the system.
While it tended to stay on "home rails", if the equipment was needed
elsewhere, or happened to be in, say, Chicago or Lincoln for some work
or an inspection, it could go out wherever needed. There was a series of
posts sometime back between me and Karl Rethwisch about C&S U30C's (road
numbers 890-893) roaming the Q, especially the C&I between Chicago and
Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Here is what Karl told me back in December 2007:

The Q used its machines wherever it wanted.  Since the C&S was a Q
property the locomotives went wherever they were needed.  SD40's, C30's
or whatever was available.

The "old" SD's pretty much stayed at "home" but the newer engines roamed
the entire system.  The 890's were no exception (unfortunately).
