Actually, other dome observation cars still survive, including the ex-CZ
Sleeper Observation Silver Solarium (http://railjourneyswest.com), its sister
Silver Crescent at the Gold Coast Railway Museum in Miami
(http://gcrm.org/cz10.aspx), and the ex-parlor-obs Silver Tower, now at Ozark
Mountain Railcar (http://www.ozarkmountainrailcar.com/silver_tower.htm).

That said, I was hoping BNSF would restore the Silver Veranda to runnable
condition for use in its business trains.  However, an exhibit of both the
Silver Veranda and Silver Streak sitting side by side would be wonderful.  In
the 60's, I could have taken a picture of such from the 23rd Street Viaduct in
Denver but never got the nerve to do it, since that was a bad part of town.

      Sure would be nice if...

It would be a good thing if the BNSF could do a great thing for preservation of
history and donate the "Silver Veranda" to a group like IRM.

Not only is it the last surviving Vista Dome Observation built in this country
by the late Budd Company, it was the feature tail car of the last full length
post war inter-city streamliner or zephyr built in the 20th Century.

Unfortunately, after a wreck on the Amtrak "Floridian" in the seventies, the
sister car "Silver Chateau" was cut up after a sale by Amtrak to a scrapper who
had it sitting in Indianapolis for a while.

With the historic significance of Silver Veranda, BNSF would do well to make a
terrific gesture and donate this beautiful car that has been in storage for
some time.

I live in California but would happy to travel cross country to a museum such
as the IRM to see it!

Just my suggestion.
