Sure would be nice if... It would be a good thing if the BNSF could do a great thing for preservation of history and donate the "Silver Veranda" to a group like IRM. Not only is it the last surviving Vista Dome Observation built in this country by the late Budd Company, it was the feature tail car of the last full length post war inter-city streamliner or zephyr built in the 20th Century. Unfortunately, after a wreck on the Amtrak "Floridian" in the seventies, the sister car "Silver Chateau" was cut up after a sale by Amtrak to a scrapper who had it sitting in Indianapolis for a while. With the historic significance of Silver Veranda, BNSF would do well to make a terrific gesture and donate this beautiful car that has been in storage for some time.
