For all who remember Aurora RH and environs, this may be humorous.  For those 
who do NOT remember Aurora RH it might still be interesting.
Since the RH and associated bldgs. were at ground level and the main line was 
elevated it only stands ta reason that any track built to connect the two 
different levels would be on an incline, hence, the track off main 1, over 
Spring St., was known as the "incline".  Down the incline and proceeding north 
(compass) one would eventually find oneself in the Hill Yd., the suburban car 
storage place.  Between the bottom of the incline and the Hill Yd. the track 
went up a slight grade all the way ta Farnsworth Ave.  Now, if a sw. crew had a 
car on the west end of the engine that needed ta be on the east end of the 
engine they would shove it a short distance up the incline, secure it, run the 
eng. down to the freight house lead, get in the clear and wait for the 
switchman to let the car roll down the hill and secure it again and wait for 
the eng. to come out and couple to the WEST end of it.  A gravity "Dutch Drop" 
was made.  
This particular day the Road Foreman's clerk was, for lack of better things ta 
do, idly staring out of a RH office window.  While staring he observed a tank 
car rolling down the incline, absent an engine.  This, of course, was not 
unusual given the possibility of the scenario described above.  While 
continuing to stare, however, the clerk observed the same tank car rollong back 
UP the incline, still with no engine present.  Soon, the car began its downhill 
trip again and still no engine.  After witnessing the car again rolling UP the 
incline with still no engine he decided ta call Eola YM and inquire as to 
exactly WHAT the Aurora job was doing.  The YM told him there WAS no Aurora job 
down there.  The clerk then suggested that he GET an engine down there, RIGHT 
NOW !!  The car had appearently gone on a sightseeing trip all by itself and 
was in the process of locating the lowest point in the track between the two 
hills.  The car was captured, no damage was done and the clerk was treated to 
some free entertainment.
