According to Greg Stout's Route of the Rockets, the Rock Island
observation-diner-lounge service was cut back to Minneapolis-Manly Iowa
on October 28, 1956. In May 1957, the Q added a diner-lounge (usually
heavyweights 307 or 308) between St Louis and Burlington. The diner was
on the rear since it ran on to Chicago via Train 15. In late 1960, the
Rock dropped their diner-lounge-observation. The Q changed diner service
to be only between St Louis and West Quincy. The diner came off in April
1963. In October 1963, the last sleeper was dropped. The book said the
plan was always to have power run through to final terminal. One thought
is that power swaps happened at Burlington due to problems with the
unit. The Zephyr Rocket always ran with only one RI E7 or one Q E7 or E8.
