Gerald's note about the picnic parks put along the railroad reminded
me of something I saw as a young brakeman when I was working the
branch lines of Illinois my first year on the job. On the outskirts
of many small towns you would find a grove of catalpa trees planted
along the tracks. Often wondered if this was a program of the CB&Q's
for suppling ties or something else. Any ideas about this ? Have a
wonderful Christmas and a great new year. Regards, Archie Hayden
