Look guys, fresh meat!!!!

The color "Imitation Aluminum" is subject to much heated debate within the BRHS
(and the societies for the Santa Fe, Rock Island, Southern, Boston & Maine,
and a few other railroads that used the same DuPont paint as well.

I believe that there were actually two shades of the color (whatever it was) as
there was a period that Q F Units were delivered in a darker shade than the
original FTs and earlier F3s. The color seems to have reverted back to the
original lighter shade at some point, maybe with the F5 units, and remained
lighter to the end. I somewhat support this theory as there is a movie of a
fantrip (the one where a 4-6-4 brought the train to Aurora, where the 637 and a
Geep took over???) where a freight with a F unit on the head end goes by on the
embankment with two distinctly different shades of "Imitation Aluminum" on the
side panels.... evidently because of wreck repairs.

I recall seeing one of the ex-CZ F3s in fresh freight paint inside at West
Burlington on the 5632 Birthday Trip and it was dazzling, Kelvinator
Refrigerator White. The color can vary (in photos and memories) from that all
the way almost to Cadet Grey.... with blues, yellow and other colors thrown in.
The InterMountain, LifeLike Proto1000 and 2000, and Athearn Genesis units
represent points within what I feel are an acceptable range. Mix up paint to
match one of them and you can't be that far off.... until some other BRHS
member sees it!

The file in the files section recommends Model Flex CB&Q "Imitation Aluminum"
acrylic for graybacks. Anybody have alternatives using PolyScale acrylics, or
Floquil enamels?

  Thanks in advance.
  Regards,
  Paul
