Greetings all:
I've added more photos to my Oregon IL album on the Yahoo site. These include
additional shots of eastbound and westbound combined Empire Builder-North Coast
Limited to go with two images already posted; the 5632 at speed charging
through town in 1960; the Mt. Morris turn returning to Oregon; the Eola-Oregon
turn pulling onto the main; an E-5 on the Afternoon Zephyr; and the Morning
Zephyr departing with one E unit, what I presume is a combine, and three domes.
I've also updated an earlier photo of a westbound coming off the Rock River
bridge with a GP-30 in the lead. I dug out the original slide which identifies
the train as No. 97.
And with the help of someone on the TrainOrders site I've identified a 1965
picture as being in Alton, IL, rather than East St. Louis. The train has two
blackbird Geeps and is heading northward presumably to the Q bridge to St.
Louis. Does anyone know that area well enough to explain who owned what tracks
thereabouts and whose tower is in the photo? The tower is on the edge of
downtown Alton and immediately south of the approach to the US 67/Clark Bridge.
Looking at Google Earth suggests a lot of changes there since 1965 that may
have moved and expanded the trackage while covering much of the area with
elevated freeways.
Bill
