I worked the East End Swing Job(two Thirds and two Seconds at Congress Park and
one third at Eola) for about the first 6 weeks of 1974 and one nite we got a
load of Pepridgeage Farm Stuffing Bread out of Downer Grove off the East End
Way Freight(Eola to Congress Park and return). I billed it out with all the
paper work and computer reporting and it went into Cicero on the CONGO(Cicero
to Downers Grove Switch Job). A couple nites later I was at Eola when the car
showed up. The Carman checked it out and found seals on both sides. He told
the TM(Bill F((removed to protect the idot))) and Bill said send it back to
Perpridge Farm. I piped up and told them it was a load of stuffing bread for
Calif. Bill said it can't be as the computer showed it was an empty sent from
Cicero to go to the Downers Grove Plant for loading. I told them to go open
it up and see. Sure enough it was a load been delayed now for almost a week.
So I wonder why there is no outbound loading track at the plant any more??

Subject: [CBQ] Hot Move at Eola
I don't want to paint Eola in a totally negative picture as there were many
good customer serving moves made there too.
General Mills was one of the customers who had direct phone numbers to the
right people to get what they wanted NOW. I was on both the phone line
receiving these calls and in the trains on at least one occasion. I also heard
the
stories of other cases. It was not uncommon for General Mills to call "the
White House" and say that car xyz 123 was leaving their plant on the Belt in
Chicago that afternoon and was need at West Chicago on the PM mail w/o fail.
Cicero would expedite switching of the car into a west bound stopping at Eola.
The night or afternoon mail would be called back from West Chicago to fetch
the
car from Eola where the yard engine had placed it first out on the "new
Track" for quick p/u and departure by the mail. General Mills would be happy
for
awhile and then there'd be another call ............ ......... ........
