The west bank line may have been a freight line, but boy did the DZ highball
down it when I rode the train between 1965 and 1968 (I had made many earlier
trips on the DZ starting in 1949, but did not notice the segment until I got an
Omaha street map in 1964 and noticed the line).

Back in high school, I made a couple of trips from Omaha to Red Oak on the
Aksarben Zephyr, and Omaha to Creston on the Nebraska Zephyr for a quick turn
around and opportunity to ride the California Zephyr back, when the talk of
discontinuing the train was prevalent in 1969 and 1970. We passed through
Council Bluffs on all trips, including a trip from Omaha to KC on a short
consist of an E8/9 and a pre-war coach.
When I worked in Omaha, fellow co-workers from the CB&Q told me about the DZ
operating via the Nebraska side via Plattsmouth. It was a revelation to me,
after my brief chance at Burlington train rides as a teen, I did not realize
Burlington passenger trains even used that route. Unfortunately, I never had a
chance to ride the Denver Zephyr due to the late or early hours of Operation
through Omaha.
But yes, Employee timetables should put this question to rest.
