Glen, We lost Paul Lanning a couple of years ago and Larry Golden went into a
nursing home a short time ago. One of the brakemen was Raymond Rigler and
I'll check with Johnny V Rethorne who has the train register for the last years
of the passenger trains. We'll dig up some of the other trainmen when I talk
to him. Archie

Archie:
I rode the Zephyr-Rocket every Sunday night in the summer of 1966 from
Hannibal to Burlington, and my recollection is the same as yours. I didn't know
the engine crews but the two conductors I rode with were Paul Lanning and
Lawrence Golden. They always got on #15 at Hannibal, worked to Burlington, then
worked #8 to St. Louis, rested during the day, and worked #15 to Hannibal. They
must have worked every other day, because I would see each of them every other
Sunday. I liked riding with Lanning, because he would let me off at Wever, when
the outfits were parked there. Golden, on the other hand, didn't like doing
that, and would make me sweat all the way to Ft. Madison, and only let me off
if we were on time. Luckily for me, 15 was almost always on time on Sunday,
because there was no mail on Sunday.
I wish I could remember the trainman's name. He was a very kind gentleman,
and a pleasure to talk to. I think he must have been good at calming Lawrence
Golden down.

YES, YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE TRAIN CREWS OPERATING ST LOUIS TO BURLINGTON,
HOWEVER THEY DIDN'T HEADQUARTER IN BURLINGTON BECAUSE THEY HAD A STEP ON- STEP
OFF AGREEMENT AT HANNIBAL. THAT WAY THEY SLEPT IN THEIR OWN BEDS INSTEAD OF
BURLINGTON. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE HOGGERS, I'LL CHECK AROUND. REMINDS ME ABOUT
A FUNNY STORY BUT I'LL SAVE IT FOR LATER. ARCHIE----- Original Message -----

train crews operated through St. Louis to Burlington with home base Burlington?
