Hank-
As much as I would like to see the waycar preserved I would be against the BRHS
purchasing it or
funding its movement.
There are plenty of preserved Q waycars (it isn't like the car is unique...like
the NM-2 Bobber that once existed in
a junkyard in Centralia) and the BRHS should concentrate on 1) Bulletins 2)
Zephyrs
3) getting an Archives established. There are thousands of CB&Q historical
documents that have been thrown
away due to lack of a suitable depository for them and many collections are
inaccessible in private hands for
the same reason. Other RR Historical Societies have managed to create online
magazines and full time staffed archives...
The cost of moving is not the only factor..... it costs money for track space,
maintenance and restoration of
a museum piece. I don't think the BRHS has the kind of money or energy as an
organization to devote to such projects.

I have two questions regarding the Green City Depot and CB&Q caboose. First,
where is Green City, I live in St. Louis and would be willing to make a run to
determine the condition of the caboose. Second, is there any interest in the
BRHS purchasing this caboose?

It might be possible to just pay for the transport since we are also a
non-profit organization. Also, there may be Museums that would be happy to
house this historic piece, for example the Transport Museum here is St. Louis.

Please let me know what you think.

  Thanks,

  Hank
