The entire train was moved to the shops outside of
Milwaukee, the same place that refurbished the Pioneer
Zephyr for the Museum of Science and Industry if I
remember correctly. The whole train had to go as it
is articulated. The Silver Pilot was not damaged and
is still at Union. Last I heard, money was trying to
be raised to refurbish the trucks as well. In their
current state, the NZ is not allowed to run at
mainline speeds, which is why I don't think its been
off the property since the last time it went to
Galesburg RR Days or to EMD. I hope it will be back
to Union soon as it is my favorite piece of equipment
there. I helped steam clean the upholstery in the NZ
a few years ago and it really looked great inside and
out.
