Then you obviously haven't looked very hard. They occurred
often. Even BEFORE the widespread use of the custom built troop
sleepers and kitchen cars - which didn't come into wide spread use
until after 1944. And no one EVER said that MAIN trains ran high speed.
If you look at Wayner's consists books (which are culled from ICC
accident reports) and the online ICC accident library, you will see
quite a few derailments of MAIN trains. A derailment didn't
necessarily mean a catastrophic or even a single loss of life or
damage to equipment. Especially at the lower speeds that most MAIN
trains were going
