I used to work a job where we would drop cars on a regular basis. My
recollection of a "Dutch Drop" would be to shove the car or cars uphill past a
switch, secure the cars and then go back down and put the engine in the clear.
After that you release the cars and let them roll by. We didn't do those as
much
as regular drops where you have to get going, slack for the pin, then take
off to clear the switch and get it thrown before the cars get to it. Then you
hope everything goes by or else you are frogged which leads to the oops, what
do we do now.

I have done lots amd lots of regular drops in my career but that is a
thing of the past. Once had to drop the coal empties while holding on to the
coal
loads but the foreman lined us into a track that was full of cars. Amazing
what those cars can take!
