New York Central had placed the number below the car nameplate on its Budd cars
since 1958, I believe. It appears that this practice was carried over by the
Penn Central.

When Silver Rapids was "PC'd" Penn Central, PC placed an additional
number
board below the car name. This letter board held the car number. This number
board could have been added by the PRR, however I don't think so, as I've seen
a
photo of Silver Rapids without the new number board with other PC equipment in
the back ground.
