I don't know about eBay's current bid retraction policy, but I have in the
past bid on an item then withdrawn the bid shortly thereafter with the
explanation that I found out the item was a fake/repro.  Since the reason
for bid retraction was posted on the bidding page, everyone could see it
and there was nothing the seller could do about it other than stop the
auction.
